Bone marrow transplantation is a procedure used to treat blood disorders (such as leukemia and lymphoma). It involves replacing the patient's diseased bone marrow with healthy marrow from a donor. There are two main types: autologous (using the patient’s own cells) and allogeneic (from another donor). The procedure often requires intensive pre- and post-transplant treatment.
